Magic 2014: Duel of the Planeswalkers – See One Sliver, Run Away. See Two Slivers, Not Your Day

Angry slivers abound

They grow up so fast, don’t they? Magic the Gathering – Duel of the Planewalkers has only been around for a few years, but is already up to its fourth installment. If you’ve played more than one game in the series though, it should be fairly obvious that they don’t tend to change much between installments, despite it being an annual thing. ‘2014 is looking to actually mix things up a bit this time around, by introducing Sealed play as well as a full run of Slivers.

If you’re not really familiar with MtG, Slivers are a creature type that all grant weird bonuses to every other Sliver you’ve got in play, and they tend to get silly as they go up in numbers. Imagine an army of flying, lifelink, double strike snake-but-with-claws things sitting across the table from you, and you’ll be close. As for Sealed play, it means that you get a pack of 84 cards, which you use to put together a deck, and then play that deck through an entire campaign culminating in an fancy boss battle and everything. It’s hardly revolutionary stuff here, but it’s nice that they’re adding to the formula for when the game comes out this summer.
